GPSR for Etsy sellers: what you must show on your listings

The EU General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR, Regulation (EU) 2023/988) has applied since 13 December 2024 to consumer products sold to EU customers — including online and by small makers. Here's what it means for your Etsy and Shopify listings.
Information to display on an online listing
- The manufacturer's name or trademark, postal and electronic address.
- If the manufacturer is not established in the EU: the EU responsible person's details.
- Information to identify the product (picture, type, batch or serial number).
- Necessary warnings and safety information in the language of the country of sale.
Who can be the EU responsible person?
An economic operator established in the EU: the manufacturer itself, an importer, an authorised representative appointed in writing, or a fulfilment service provider. A UK address does not qualify.
Typical cases
- EU-based maker: you are the manufacturer; your own details are enough.
- Reselling products made outside the EU: identify the EU importer or representative.
- US/UK seller shipping to the EU: you need an EU-based operator for those products.
On Etsy and Shopify
Etsy added product-safety fields for sales to the EU — check its Help Center for the current steps. On Shopify, add the information to product pages (description or metafields). If you sell on both, keep it identical.
Checklist
- List products and identify each manufacturer.
- Identify an EU responsible person where needed.
- Write warnings in the relevant languages.
- Add a product reference or batch number.
- Fill Etsy fields and Shopify product pages consistently.
- Keep your risk analysis and technical documentation.
